All photos were shot with an iPhone [5, 6, 6S, 11 Pro]. Some images are screenshots.
Many of the images are cropped and manipulated using Apple Photos software - and directly on the iPhone. All images are copyrighted - and available for sale or for free use with credit to me and my written consent. All other images are attributed. My name is Jonathan Lee. Born 12/1960, I started taking pictures at age 7, and was developing B+W film and printing in a dark room at 12. Eventually I got an early point and shoot and most shots were straightforward holidays and events, vacations... But my interest in photography was reawakened when I got my first iPhone in 2014. For me, the convenience of the iPhone far outweighs any drawbacks. (Plus, it's subtle - everybody has a phone in their hands all the time.) I like working within (or against) the limitations of the camera. My approach to photography is "Experimental." Also exploratory and haphazard. Shoot from the hip, see what happens. Most of the time, I'm only loosely composing the shot (I'll crop it later). I shoot even when I can't see the screen because the sun is too bright. I shoot multiples, most are rejects. |
Most of the shots I take these days are panoramas, but I still take plenty of "normal" photographs.
I'll also crop a "regular" photo to a panorama format - and crop a panorama to a more conventional format. Sometimes I take a normal shot to document the scene the panorama has distorted. "Photography" has so many styles/niches now, and there are so many Photographers... And billions of photos taken daily, does the world need another one? When I take a panorama, I have a pretty good idea of what could happen, how the shot will turn out - but I never really know. It's always a little surprising, how the AI collaborates with my artistic endeavor. When I take a picture, I want it to be unique. |

I'm a documentarian, recording specific moments in time and space, capturing bouncing light rays on a ccd screen, storing the data on solid-state silicone circuitry and sharing it later - the 1s and 0s converted back into light rays, beaming through the screens of your digital devices directly into your visual cortex.
Viewing the images on this website gives them meaning and reconfirms an alternate reality that I have witnessed and digitally processed for your enjoyment. Once seen, none of these images can be unseen. I am not responsible for any of your nightmares. |

I do not give my images names. I produce too many to name.
